What is the relationship of Aarons mitre with the coverings of 1 Corinthians 11" TARGET="_blank">1 Corinthians 11?

The teaching of I Corinthians 11:2-16" TARGET="_blank">I Corinthians 11:2-16 seems to be more a contrast than a comparison. Headship is the core truth of the passage and is distinguished from lordship. Picturing a body, headship points downward from the head and involves the responsibility of the head for the body. God has established an order in which the head takes care of the body. Lordship is complementary to this and points upward to the head. Lordship indicates the responsibility of the body to the head. The body acknowledges this order by subjection. Authority is linked with lordship, administration with headship. Colossian truth is that He is the head of the Body ("looking from the head down") and is therefore the source of our completeness (Colossian 1:18; 2:10, 19)." TARGET="_blank">Colossian 1:18; 2:10, 19). Ephesian truth is that we are in the Body ("looking from the body up") and are responsible to one another and to the Lord (Ephesians 5:21, 22)." Second, two spheres of headship are on display in the head coverings in 1 Corinthians 11" TARGET="_blank">1 Corinthians 11: Christ is head of the man; man is head of the woman (verse 3). The temporary covering on the head of the woman and the lack of a covering on the head of the man expresses Christs headship of the man. The short hair of the man and the long hair of the woman express mans headship of the woman. The first sphere of headship requires incarnation and redemption. The second dates from creation (not the Fall).

Interpreting Aarons head covering in light of 1 Corinthians 1" TARGET="_blank">1 Corinthians 1 seems to confuse the issue therefore, since headship is not related to subjection to authority and the covered head displays a New Testament headship.

Are we not right in understanding the angels here to be the Church glorified, and made equal to the angels, seeing we read in Hebrews 2:5," TARGET="_blank">Hebrews 2:5, “For unto the angels (the angels of chapter 1) hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.”?

No, it would be a great mistake to confound angels with the Church, as this questioner suggests. I do not know of any passage which teaches that the Church becomes angels, or indeed that any saints do. In Luke 20:36," TARGET="_blank">Luke 20:36, where our Lord uses the expression, “equal unto the angels,” it is only as to the question of their immortality (“neither shall they die any more”), that the children of the resurrection (not here oniy the Church) “are equal to the angels.” The next words add a point of blessing, in which these surpass the angels, “and are the children of God,” which the angels are not. I think Hebrews 2:5" TARGET="_blank">Hebrews 2:5 argues rather against, than for, the thesis of the questioner. “The world to come” (i.e., the millennial age) will not be subjected to angels, which is another point of their inferiority to the Church, for that age will be subject to Christ, with Whom God associates not angels, but the many sons whom He is bringing to glory. If the angels are excluded from this rule, how can they be the same as the Church?

Is it ever God’s will for an assembly Christian to marry an unbeliever or a believer who is not in assembly fellowship?

Marriage in the Lord involves the marriage of two believers who are willing to submit to the Lord. Full submission to His lordship includes gathering to His name (Matthew 18:20)." Admittedly, some who gather to His name are not fully submitted to His lordship and some who do not gather to His name submit to His lordship to a greater degree. A believer who receives the Biblical teaching of gathering to His name and doesn’t submit to it (or only "submits" to it to gain the hand of a partner in marriage) is not submitting to His lordship. Marrying such a person is not "marriage in the Lord."

Marrying an unbeliever or marrying a believer who does not submit to the Lordship of Christ violates God’s Word and cannot be His will.

Does the believer have two natures?

Why do some question the use of the expression, the believers two natures?

Sometimes defining terms helps resolve differences. At issue is what constitutes a nature? If we accept that a nature is the essential characteristics and qualities of a person or thing, we can suggest three possible objections.

A first objection is that this expression is not biblical. Some point out that we have become "partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4)." TARGET="_blank">2 Peter 1:4). This cannot mean we have been made to share in the "essential characteristics" of deity, because those characteristics are non-transferable. If this referred to a "new nature," we would hardly have expected the word "partakers." Peter would more likely state that we received it or that God imparted it, since "nature" seems to imply something that has now become native to a believer. The suggested meaning is that, as possessors of new life - eternal life, we share the quality of life possessed by God.

A second objection is that it is difficult to define any "entity" or nature imparted at salvation. What was imparted to us at salvation is a new principle and power. We have been made alive spiritually and have received eternal life. Our quickened spirit or mind now has a relationship with God and delights in righteousness (Romans 7:22, 23)." TARGET="_blank">Romans 7:22, 23). Because of this relationship, a new law or principle is now active in the believer.

In addition, the Spirit of God now resides within us. He empowers the believer to live righteously. This is a more intimate and effective provision than Old Testament believers enjoyed, yet they lived righteously as a result of having been made spiritually alive. Our minds have always been able to make moral choices, but when made alive spiritually our mind functions properly by responding to God and to righteousness.

A third objection is that "the essential characteristics and qualities of a person7 define that person. Is a believer, then, "defined" by "our old man" (Romans 6:6)," TARGET="_blank">Romans 6:6), his old standing in Adam, or by "the new man" (Colossians 3:10)," TARGET="_blank">Colossians 3:10), his new standing in Christ? The essential characteristics of a believer in Christ are "righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:24)." TARGET="_blank">Ephesians 4:24). Every believer is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)" TARGET="_blank">2 Corinthians 5:17) and this defines his characteristics.

Many able teachers and commentators refer to the believer's two natures, so it is best not to crusade on this point.

The initial signs (Mat 24:4-10)" TARGET="_blank">Mat 24:4-10) the Lord gives correspond to the first five seal judgments (Revelation 6:1-11)," TARGET="_blank">Revelation 6:1-11), which follow the catching up (4:1) and rewarding (v 10) of the saints of this age. The abomination of desolation (Mat 24:15)" TARGET="_blank">Mat 24:15) refers to the mid-point of the 7-year period (Dan 9:27" TARGET="_blank">Dan 9:27b). The"great tribulation" (Matthew 24:21)" TARGET="_blank">Matthew 24:21) points to the last half of that period and the visible coming of the Son of Man (v 27) to the Lord’s return to earth. The teaching comparing the days of Noah (vv 37-42) relates to the coming of the Son of Man, referring back to verse 27, as does the warning in verse 44. The Parable of the Faithful and Evil Servants (vv 45-51) deals likewise with "His coming" which must be the coming of the Son of Man in the context.

The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30)," TARGET="_blank">Matthew 25:14-30), which follows the Parable of the Ten Virgins, cannot refer to believers of this age. The wicked servant had responsibility entrusted to him by his master, yet is cast by the master into outer darkness. This, similar to the parable at the end of chapter 24 must have a Jewish setting. The prophecy of the sheep and the goats likewise refers to the Son of Man’s coming in glory.

The context of the Ten Virgins is the Lord’s return to earth and not the Rapture.

The other word, "to serve as deacons," is in verse 2: "leave the Word of God, and serve tables." Administering the care of widows in the assembly became an issue. To the Twelve, their deacon service with God’s Word had higher priority, so this deacon work should be entrusted to others. The qualifications for this work are all spiritual and moral (verse 3). Later, the issue in Antioch was Jews eating with Gentiles (Galatians 2:12, 13)." TARGET="_blank">Galatians 2:12, 13). Here, although all were saved Jews, some distinction - based on whether or not they spoke the language of the Gentiles, Greek - affected the widows eating. Seven men whose names indicate that they spoke Greek met the qualifications. The Spirit guided in this doctrinal issue by beginning to remove ethnic distinctions among believers. The apostles identified themselves with the seven men (verse 6) and the transfer of deacon work took place seamlessly. These seven did deacon work, but they did not have the title, "deacons." They did not assume an office; they had the responsibility of a work.

How can we deal with in-law problems?

It is important always to remember that you and your in-laws are all children of God and loved by Him so much that He gave His Son for each of you. Every effort should be made to avoid involving others in the assembly.

Sometimes the problem is that parents have been so accustomed to the subjection of their children in the home that they forget that their married "child" is now a member of a new family with the husband as the head. The situation should never be left to fester and become worse, or it can develop into strife not only within the family but also in the assembly
