Parallel Bible

gen 1:1-5" TARGET="_blank">gen 1:1-5&search=&ver1=kjv&ver2=bbe">Click here to see an example of Genesis 1:1-5" TARGET="_blank">Genesis 1:1-5 in the online parallel Bible showing two versions (KJV - King James Version and the BBE - the Bible in Basic English).  The purpose of the parallel Bible is to allow you compare one translation to another.  Often the familiar KJV carries the traditional wording that many christians or churches have used for centuries, but another version, in parallel, may help in the understanding of the meaning of the text.

Instructions for using the Parallel Bible

3. 4. Select the second Bible version to complete the parallel.  The second, optional parallel, choice is not required to make a search.

If you enter a search word or phrase, the results of your parallel bible search will be different with each Bible version since the language in each Bible version is slightly different.

About the Bible Versions

KJV

The King James or Authorised Version of the Bible is an English translation of the Christian Bible first published in 1611. The New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) edition of the Greek texts, so called because most extant texts of the time were in agreement with it. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Hebrew text.

(Modern English Bibles such as the New American Standard Bible and the English Standard Version decline to use the Textus Receptus, opting instead for what many modern scholars feel are more reliable critical editions.)

The King James Version has had a profound effect on English literature. The works of famous authors such as John Milton, Herman Melville, John Dryden, and William Wordsworth are deeply inspired by it.

BBE

The Bible In Basic English (also known as BBE) is a translation of the Bible into Basic English. The BBE was translated by Professor S. H. Hooke using the standard 850 Basic English words. 100 words that were helpful to understand poetry were added along with 50 "Bible" words. The New Testament was released in 1941 and the Old Testament was released in 1949.

ASV

The American Standard Version (ASV) of the Holy Bible was first published in 1901. It has earned the reputation of being the Rock of Biblical Honesty. Although the English used in the ASV is somewhat archaic, it isn't nearly as hard to understand as some passages of the King James Version of nearly 3 centuries earlier. This translation of the Holy Bible is in the public domain, since its copyright has expired. You are encouraged to download, copy, publish, and use this translation freely.

Darby

First published in 1890 by John Nelson Darby, an Anglo-Irish Bible teacher associated with the early years of the Plymouth Brethren. Darby also published translations of the Bible in French and German.

ESV

The English Standard Version (ESV) was Published in 2003 as a translation to bridge the gap between the accuracy of the NASB and the readability of the NIV.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. As such, its emphasis is on “word-for-word” correspondence, at the same time taking into account differences of grammar, syntax, and idiom between current literary English and the original languages. Thus it seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original.

In contrast to the ESV, some Bible versions have followed a “thought-for-thought” rather than “word-for-word” translation philosophy, emphasizing “dynamic equivalence” rather than the “essentially literal” meaning of the original. A “thought-for-thought” translation is of necessity more inclined to reflect the interpretive opinions of the translator and the influences of contemporary culture.

WAS JUDAS PRESENT

Was Judas present at the institution of the Lord’s Supper?

This is a much debated point, on which godly men have differed, so one would hesitate to dogmatise. Before giving what I believe to be the correct answer, I would say that the anxiety to prove that Judas was not present seems to rest on the false assumption that his presence would sanction to-day the admission of the ungodly to the Lord’s table. I believe this to be an entire mistake. Judas was a professed disciple of the Lord and one of the twelve apostles. He had passed all the tests and was apparently the most trusted of all by his fellow apostles, though the Lord knew from the beginning that he was a devil and would betray Him (John 6:64, 70)." TARGET="_blank">John 6:64, 70). He did not, however, use His omniscience to expose Judas before the time, in fact not till he had irretrievably committed himself. His presence then at the Lord’s table would no more justify the reception of those known to be ungodly, than his being sent forth to preach would sanction the sending forth of the ungodly for this purpose. Matthew 26:25" TARGET="_blank">Matthew 26:25 seems to shew he was present up to the institution, and verse 26 begins, “As they were eating.” That is, the passover was not yet formally over; is it conceivable then that Judas would have left the room thus prematurely, as he must have done, to bar his being present at the institution of “the supper”? However, whether he did or not is not clearly stated in this Gospel, nor yet in Mark 14:22." TARGET="_blank">Mark 14:22.

It is true that before that, the Lord had said plainly that the traitor would be found “among them that dipped with Him in the dish”; and He had said to Judas, “Thou has said,” in answer to his query, “Master (not Lord) is it I?” which for very decency’s sake he must have felt bound to make, lest he should draw attention to himself by his silence (Matthew 26:25)." TARGET="_blank">Matthew 26:25). But this was probably only to Judas’ ear, who sat next to Him. This must not be confounded with the Lord’s definite sign to John, in answer to what I believe was his subsequent question, “Lord who is it?” “He it is to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it.” This revealed definitely to John the name of the traitor, and he alone narrates the incident (John 13:26, 27)." TARGET="_blank">John 13:26, 27).

When we come to Luke’s Gospel we have a definite statement which must be allowed to have its influence, and I believe, its determinative influence with us. After the Lord has instituted the supper of remembrance, He immediately adds, “But, behold the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.” The force of this definite statement is met at once by some who assert that Luke does not give us things in historic, but in moral order. Certainly there is a measure of truth in this, though it can not mean that the historic order in some detailed account by Luke is never to be followed, but only has weight when Luke gives us an order of events (as he does, e.g., in the last journey to Jerusalem) which seems to clash with the other Gospels. But what moral order is concerned in such a statement as that of our Lord? (Luke 22:21)." TARGET="_blank">Luke 22:21). It would seem to be going out of the way to introduce confusion, rather than moral order, unless we are to take it literally. If Matthew and Mark had clearly stated that Judas had left before the supper was instituted, then such an argument might have force, and Luke’s testimony be discounted. John 13" TARGET="_blank">John 13 does not seem really to help us, as there is no hint that Judas went out before the first “breaking of the bread,” for nothing is said of it. He did go out when the Lord had given him the sop and that was, I believe, after he had par- taken to his own condemnation of the bread and the wine, symbols of that very body and blood, of which by his betrayal he became guilty.

The name, "Morning Star" (Revelation 22:16)" TARGET="_blank">Revelation 22:16) and the "Day Star" (2 Peter 1:19)" TARGET="_blank">2 Peter 1:19) both refer to the coming of the Lord Jesus.  Are they the same?

The "Day Star" refers to the person of Jesus Christ. A few versions of the Bible (e.g. Darby, English Standard Version , New American standard), use the words "Morning Star" in 2 Peter 1:19." TARGET="_blank">2 Peter 1:19. The word "phosphoros" in Greek means "light bearing" (Strong, WEV), "light bringing" (Thayer), or even the Venus (Liddell & Scott). The two words in Greek from Revelation 22" TARGET="_blank">Revelation 22: are translated directly as "Morning Star." The word Peter uses, then, has a different emphasis than the two words in Revelation. In Peter is focusing on the second coming to the earth, but in Revelation 22" TARGET="_blank">Revelation 22 the emphasis is on the coming in the air for the Church.

In one paragraph (2 Peter 1:16-21)," TARGET="_blank">2 Peter 1:16-21), Peter, shows the certainty of the Lord’s coming to earth in glory. The brightness of the Morning Star ("the light bringer") should capture their (and our) attention and give assurance of the glorious day, when the "Sun of Righteousness shall arise" (Malachi 4:2)." TARGET="_blank">Malachi 4:2). In Revelation 22," TARGET="_blank">Revelation 22, the bright ("radiant": Strong) Morning Star captures the affection of the churches and causes anticipation of His coming to the air for His Bride - the Church. The Spirit and Bride both are calling for Him to come.

The subject of knowing if one is saved or not is probably the most important issue in the Christian life.

The assurance of salvation only comes from the Word of God.  Your feelings will change.  Your pastor can lie.  Your life will not always be an example of perfect Christian living.  The scripture, however, cannot be broken and will never pass away.

A common feature of many stories of salvation is that a person has a moment in life, when a particular verse or truth based on the teaching of a verse is the only ground on which that person stands.  If you know that Christ died for your sins on the cross, what is it that tells you that truth? It's the scripture - the Word of God.

The God who cannot lie is the God who wrote the Bible.  Through his word, you can be assured that if God says something, you can trust it.

Some assurances from the scripture include:

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. - John 5:24" TARGET="_blank">John 5:24

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. - 1 John 5:11" TARGET="_blank">1 John 5:11

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,  - John 1:11-12" TARGET="_blank">John 1:11-12

There is a book online called "Here is the difference " by William McDonald that may help answer some of your doubts.  There are other doctrines such as forgiveness for the believer and salvation from the habits of sin that are relevant to your question.
