Lesson: 401

Reading: 1 Kings 1-8

Memory Verse: Prov. 29:25
Memory Verse Text: Whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.

Attention Getter: Who is the richest man in the world?

Point 1: David was old and close to dying; he knew that God had a man in mind to take his place on the throne, Solomon.  There were other men, however, like Adonijah, which wanted to take his kingdom and even tried to obtain it.  Therefore, when Solomon was anointed as king, Adonijah became fearful that he would kill him; instead of killing him, Solomon promised him that he would live if he obeyed.
Point 2: David gave Solomon counsel as to the charge of God's people, as to those who may rise up to try and defy him, and as to how to treat those who were loyal and faithful.  God made Solomon extremely wealthy and wise, but his glory was still very little compared to the glory of the Saviour who came here to die.
Point 3: Solomon showed how wise he was when the two mothers came to him fighting over their babies (1 Kings 3:16-18).  Even though he was extremely wise, Solomon made a peace agreement with Egypt and married Pharoah's daughter, choices which led to lots of trouble later.
Point 4: Solomon built a glorious temple for God; God saw it and took note of it.
