Sunday School Lesson 330 David The Shepherd

Lesson: 330

Lesson Name: The Shepherd
Theme: Christ the Shepherd

Reading: Psalms 23; 1 Samuel 17:34-51

Memory Verse: Psalm 23:1
Memory Verse Text: The Lord is my Shepherd.

Talking Points

Point 1: The responsibilities of keeping sheep trained David for the work that God would give him on the throne over all Israel.  He faced many enemies as a shepherd; he had to fight off a powerful bear and a cunning and swift lion which had taken a lamb.  Application: The Wicked One is very bold and loves to steal and kill the lambs.
Point 2: David told of how he took the lion by the beard, face on, and how he smote and killed him.  Later on, David further saw the Giant Philistine Goliath as nothing more than a puny man who had defied the Living God.
Point 3: Even though the giant Goliath despised David, David had the Lord with him and he made it clear that he had not come alone (1 Samuel 17:37,42,45).
Point 4: Goliath, the greatest champion of the Philistines, Israelite's enemy, was dead; his power was removed and his weapons were taken from him.  Application: The Lord saved us from our enemy of death as well... Hallelujah what a Saviour!
