Sunday School Lesson 212 Crossing the Red Sea

Lesson: 212

Lesson Name: The Red Sea
Theme: Salvation: Provision For All

Reading: Exodus 13:17-22; 14:1-31

Memory Verse: Exodus 14:13
Memory Verse Text: Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.

Talking Points:

Point 1: God gave His people the reward of gold borrowed from the Egyptians as payment for their labor.  Now, God miraculously and personally led them with fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day.  The fire and pillar of cloud were more than just symbols; they meant that God was with them.  God still desires and is able to lead today through His Word.
Point 2: Pharaoh's heart was "changed" in Ex. 14:5 causing him to take his army to pursue the released Israelites.  In line with God's plan, the Israelites began to wail and doubt (Ex. 14:10).  Pharaoh might have had all the weapons, soldiers, and chariots, but the Israelites had the Lord with them.  Somehow, neither the Egyptians, nor the Israelites, saw the Lord.
Point 3: The Israelites witnessed another great miracle when Moses stretched the rod out and the Red Sea parted.  While all of Israel passed through, God confused the Egyptians and hid the Israelites from their revenge.  When the rod is stretched out again, one simple act of God brought the feared enemies to nothing.  What a great God we have!
Point 4: Note what Israel saw in Ex. 14:30,31, as well as their song in Ex. 15.  Only the saved really have something to sing about: "Isn't He wonderful?"

This is an 16 page mini story book for coloring featuring Moses leading the Children of Israel through the Red Sea on their Exodus from Egypt.  Small, foldable booklets are good projects for students to color and provide their own dialoge to the story.  The full-page pictures are for showing to a class and hanging on the wall.
