Sunday School Lesson 210 The Plagues of Egypt - Locusts and Darkness

Lesson: 210
Lesson Name: The Plagues (Part 6 of 7): Locusts & Darkness
Theme: Sinner is Diseased, Dark, and Dead

Reading: Exodus 10:1-29

Memory Verse: Psalm 82:5
Memory Verse Text: They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness.

Talking Points

Point 1: Notice what God wanted Israel to know: "I am the LORD" (Ex. 10:2)  Recall from Lesson 206 that Jehovah, the Self-Existing One, needs no one, but He still reveals Himself to others including sinners.  The call is given to Pharaoh, "How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before ME?" (Ex. 10:3)
Point 2: Even Pharaoh's servants now pressed him to release the Israelites.  Pharaoh was now partly willing and let the men could go; he knew that they would want to come back eventually for their kids. God, on the other hand, wanted to deliver everyone.  Pharaoh's terms were unacceptable, so he drove Moses and Aaron out of his presence.  Application: We cannot afford to leave the young behind in the world today.
Point 3: God took action once more and sent the most voracious locusts to eat up everything left over after the hail.  In turn, Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste yet again and asked for favor of the Lord, even though he had no true desire to change.
Point 4: The darkness of the ninth plague could be FELT, causing Pharaoh to be seemingly relenting again.  He gave permission for the children to leave, but still holds back all the flocks and herds.  God terms were that "Not a hoof (should) be left behind," so Pharaoh drove them out of his presence again; he had decided his own fate for himself.  Application: Be absolutely clear that when a person rejects God and His Word, they are also inviting spiritual darkness into their lives; some will feel their darkness for all eternity.
