Sunday School Lesson 921 Why we need to be saved - Because of the Nature of Man

LESSON 2: WE NEED TO BE SAVED BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF MAN

B. We need to be saved because of the NATURE OF MAN.

Verse Center: Hebrews 11:3:

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. [In other words things that we see in nature including man were not made from evolving from each other, nor the one celled organisms made from chemicals and proteins but from an outside-nature-source; They were made by God who is a spirit and we can‘t see him. (not things which do appear.)]

Review Center: Have students repeat game for lesson 1.

Visual Aids and verses: Make poster of: Heb 11:3 and one for the following 7 categories for Nature of Man: 1.Created, 2. Sinners by nature, 3.Sinners by practice, 4. Conscience, 5.The Bible, 6.Condemned already, 7. Free will. Make a heart of 8x11 black construction paper. (Fold a white paper (8x11 for pattern) in half lengthwise and cut half a heart out, unfold for heart pattern.)

Aims: That the students will learn the underlined part of the verse and be able to name 5 of 7 Natures’ of man.

Vocabulary words: (Go over these if students don’t know them.)

Hell: a place God created for Satan the Devil because he sinned against God. But his followers will have to go their too if they do not get saved. It is a place of eternal, forever torment.

Sin: are the bad things we do because we have a bad, sinful nature within us. It is a crime in thought, word or deed that is done against God’s will. The sin of unbelief in his Son, Jesus is the only sin that God condemns us for-sends us to hell for. John 16: 8,9, Heb 11:6. Results of sin; Gal 6:7, Jn 8:34, Heb 3:13, Jn 3:8, 19, 36, Rev 20:15.

TEACHING THE LESSON: (The soul that sinneth, it shall die. Ezekiel 18:4)

1. We are created by God and are obligated to respond to him. We as those created in the Image of God have a responsibility to react to the Love of our Creator. We have chosen to sin and are separated from our God until we accept the Gift of His Son as our Redeemer. John 3:17,18 says, “For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

2.We are Sinners by Nature:

But Adam and Eve disobeyed and ate of the forbidden tree even though there were many others they could have eaten from. Rom 5:12 “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” We have inherited a sin nature simply by being human. We can see this by our tendency to disobey everyday.

3. We’re sinners by Practice. Rom 3:23 says that All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That means we have missed the mark of his perfection, and we do it everyday, even after we’re saved because we don‘t get rid of our old nature until we‘re in heaven. When we get saved our New Nature, given by the Holy Spirit, gives us power to conquer our old Nature, if we heed the Words of God.

4. Our Conscience condemns us. Our conscience is the inner voice that tells us what’s right or wrong. Romans 2:14-15 “For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; People know what’s right because they know they want to be treated “right”, and therefore want others to treat them “right”.

5. The words from the Bible condemn us, so that we have no excuse as to what’s right and wrong. We resist accepting our status of what the Bible says about us. Heb 2:3 says, How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

6. We are Condemned already. We were friends of the world, children of Satan, and are estranged (no longer friends of God) from God. Ephesians 2:2-3. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Jn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. We must ask to be saved.

7. We have the freedom to choose Christ instead of our life of sin, this is called Free will. Joshua 24:15 “… choose you this day whom ye will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” God’s will is for us to accept him. God wants all to accept him We shouldn’t put it off any longer. (You may want to give the invitation to accept Christ’s death on the cross for their sin as in lesson 1.)

Art materials: White printing (8 1/2; x 11)paper; red, & green construction paper (or felt) . Scissors, glue; poinsettia pattern and long leaf pattern; top curve pattern. Yellow const. paper. Use form 2-2 for pattern.

Directions for Art Project: “Pop Up Card”

Fold the printing paper in half lengthwise (hot dog fold). Place the curve pattern on top and trace around it. Cut out the piece at the top to leave a curve at the top center of the page. Now fold the paper in half width wise (hamburger fold) to the top of the curved edge. Make a dot at the center of the page where the 2 lines meet and at the end of the curves. Make a penciled dotted line from the ends of the curve on both sides to the midpoint of the page to the center dot. Make 2 folds (mountain folds towards you, then change them to valley folds away from you) from these two sets of dots. For the curve pull it forward the top of the curves to the bottom to make a triangle inside that pops out at you , when you open it. . Using the petal pattern make a red poinsettia. Make 2 green “petals” for leaves from the one long leaf pattern by gluing it to the back of the poinsettia flower so the green sticks out on the long side of the poinsettia . Make 4 small ¼“ yellow dots for the center of the poinsettia. On the inside of the card around pop out ; Make lines to write on ½” wide and have students write out; “Those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever” Deut. 29:29 and on the other side “The Lord hath made known his Salvation” Ps 98:2. For the front cut out 5/16 th strips of green and red. Can use fancy cut scissors for this. Cut them to fit around the front as a frame and glue them around the verse. On the front of the card, in the center (leave space for frame around it) have the students write: “There is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” Ac 4: Glue yellow dots in center of poinsettia. Fold the poinsettia in half lengthwise(mountain fold). Glue it to center of the curve inside with fold of flower matching fold of paper underneath so it doesn‘t stick out beyond the folded card. Glue the two corners of the inside to the outside of the card..
