Sunday School Lesson 922 How to be saved

LESSON 3: HOW TO BE SAVED.

Verse center:

3. Leviticus 17:11:

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement [payment] for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

Review Center: Have students say verses for lesson 1 and 2 to each other and then quiz each other.

Visual Aids: Verses to put on poster Lev 17:11, and the acrostic G, R, A, C, E written vertically with: God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense -for each letter. Make a red cross 8x11 for the wall with GRACE written vertically.

Aims: The student will learn at least the underlined part of the verse. The student will be able to tell the 4 main parts of Salvation:

4 Parts to Salvation

1. Lamb of God, in the OT, it was the lamb (Gen 4:4) who died for the sins of the Israelites that pictured the coming Christ. In the NT it is Christ, whose blood was shed for all .Salvation: It’s always through the Lamb of God. (Use form 2-3a and 2-3b as visual; color with crayons or markers first.) And Jesus became our Lamb of God, John introduced him to the Jews as such. John 1:29; The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Lev. 17:11- Salvation - It’s always by the blood. (above) It started in the OT and is still true in the NT. It’s what God required to wash away sin

2. Grace: unmerited favor from God, God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. A reward we get that we did nothing to deserve. Eph 2:8, 9. For by grace are ye saved through faith, that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.

3. Mercy: a punishment we did not get, that we deserve. Jonah 4:1...for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, …

4. Faith: trust; Man’s response to God’s grace. Trusting in the words of God- the promise of God that Christ‘s shed blood truly atones for the soul. Heb 11:1 faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things unseen. We weren’t at the crucifixion of Christ but we believe and trust the word of God that says it paid for our sins Rom 5:8 …while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Faith is produced by hearing the promises of the word of God. Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. We don’t go by our feelings but by what God has promised.

Know our enemy, Satan: (probably for only older students.)

Ask these questions to your students and have them look them up with the references.( Pass out slips of paper with the references on them so they can look them up ahead of time.) Explain the answers found in the verses.
