LESSON 5: WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO WITH THE BIBLE?

Verse Center: 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Review Center: Make a new game: Each student has 1 piece of paper (8 ½ x 11) . Each places 20 stickers in a circle around edge of each page so that a full circle is made. Label one of the stickers “first”. Have students write “My word shall not return void” in center” of each page. It will be the “stopping/finish place”. Use buttons/stones for markers . Make “number cards”; - 2 ½ x 3 cards with numbers 1,2,&3 - on them one set/student, shuffle them. (Dice can be used). Cut 14 -2 ½ x 3” cards in half to make 28- 1 ¼ x 3” cards. Write the following words on them: It claims to be, fearful fearless, unified 40- 1600, fit’s the facts, prophecies fulfilled, good reputation, 3500 year survival, inspiration, preservation, salvation, learning, avoiding sin, comfort, hope, profiting, success, lamp, light, milk, sword, meat, seed, silver, mirror, honey, gold, water, fire. Directions for playing the game: Oldest student starts first, chooses a number card and a word card. Student must give an explanation of what the words mean before moving his marker off the first sticker the number of spaces designated on the card. Teacher can ok the explanations given if there’s a question. This is a review of the last 4 lessons. The student that reaches the center verse as last spot wins. Plastic pages can be put over each game board.

Visual Aids: Print the 7 titles below on white pages with verse reference. Use the background colors from lesson 2 as color for VA.

Aims: The older students will be able to quote the 7 commands we are to do with the Bible. (Aid to memorize- R, S, S, M, M O, T - initials of the words)

Lesson:

What are we suppose to do with the Bible?

1. Read it: 1 Timothy 4:13 "Till I come give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. "
2. Study it: 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
3. Search it: Acts 17:11 b " ... they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
4. Memorize it: Proverbs 2:1 "My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee...."
5. Meditate on it: Joshua 1:8 a "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth: but thou shalt meditate therein day and night...."
6. Obey it: John 14:15 "If ye love me keep my commandments"
7. Teach it 2 Timothy 2:2 ..."The same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.


Materials for Art: 1- 8 ½ x 8 ½ square of paper or larger square. Pen,

Art Project directions: Take an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper, fold it one corner to opposite edge so that it touches the edge at 8 ½ inches, crease on the angle. Cut the excess off, the 2 ½ “ rectangle. Now you have a piece of paper 8 ½ x 8 ½ “ square. Fold it from the other corners, to find the exact center. Make a line with a pencil in the shape of a cross, that meets exactly in the center. Bring up each corner to this center cross and crease it. Turn it over and do the same. There are 8 triangles showing now, write information on each triangle in clockwise direction around the square. On upper left hand corner write, 1 Read, to the right of it Write 5. Meditate, under that “What we’re suppose to do with the Bible, under that 4. Memorize, clockwise- 7. Teach, 3. Search, 6. Obey, & 2. Study. Put your right thumb in the back under 4& 7. Put right pointer finger under 5. Etc. Put your left thumb under 6 & 3. Left, pointer finger under 1 & 2. Open the valley to see # 1. Read. Try to guess the next step (2 study before looking by opening it up the other way. Try to guess the next one then open it up to check if it’s right. (This can be used to memorize anything- the next word)
