I just read your entry on whether a woamn must cover her head at a wedding or a funeral.
I feel I must disagree as I find your view to be rather narrow.
Firstly,
1 Corinthians 11:1-16 does not provide a setting as to where the sisters are praying or prophesising. That people teach that it is in an assembly setting is something that is read in and is not supported by the verses in question. It is merely one of many possible scenarios for prayer and prophesy.
Secondly, a sister is to wear a head covering when brethren pray, be it at a wedding, a furneral, family devotions or grace at meals. Unless one is to argue a higher status for assembly prayers over other prayer settings, with only higher status prayers requiring a head covering. As such an argument would not be biblical, it appears that head coverings are required whenever and wherever brethren pray. If the setting permits/requires a brother to pray publically, then it also permits/requires a sister to cover publically. You cannot have the one without the other.
If the sisters are rebellious and will not cover, then the brother should not pray aloud for them to say Amen, for he would be the direct cause of dishonouring/shaming their head(s) by so doing. Why would a brother do something that would bring dishonour or shame to Jesus?
Thirdly, if unbelievers are to feel uncomfortable by head coverings, well so they should. Hell awaits them and the discomfort they feel over head coverings is rather minor compared to the eternity of discomfort they will shortly feel in hell. Let the head coverings convict them of their unsaved state, some might yet be saved by this simple act of obedience.
Fourth, if head coverings are to be taught as a sign of submission to one's head, then surely such a teaching advocates a full time wearing, both within and without the assembly. After all, being in subjection is a continuous state.
Stand firm brother in the Word and be not swayed by the unbelieving heathen and false christians, who detest head coverings with a passion.
Every chance we get to witness to the world that Jesus is our Lord and King, we must grasp and what a great non-verbal witness is obedience to head coverings by the sisters for the unbelievers.
Be blessed
