LESSON 4 THE FLOOD IS THE MISSING LINK

When it’s their turn they read one of the Scientists names. Any of the other students can try to remember what his contribution was from lesson 3’s information; raise their hand, and when the card holder gives them permission to answer, they answer. Whoever gets it right first wins the card. So as not to discourage the little kids; once a big kid earns 2 cards ask them to not answer so fast; to see if a little kid can get a chance to answer.

 

Visual Aids ; (art- 3-4-3)(VA): Make poster of II Peter 3:3-13. 3-4-4 ; globe or small blue ball; large yellow ball. One 8 ½ x 11 card stock; Fold in half lengthwise. Make a cut in center to fold on one side. VA-On one side of cut (top) write in large print Catastrophism; on right side write; Uniformitarianism. Under Castastrophism, lift up, write “is a model that a great world wide disaster of a flood, volcanoes, and mountain building happened quickly to change the earth’s surface to be as we see it today. …the earth…will teach thee. Under Uniformitarianism write; “is a model where all geological processes like erosion, mountain building et. Had continued at the same rate of speed, for millions of years; since the ‘beginning’”. II Pet. 3:4 . Also take 4 2/3 of different colored paper. Place them 1 ¼” apart on ends with small one in center. Fold them 4 ½ “ from top one; staple there. Aims: That the students can recite the underlined part of the verse and recite 7 of the evidences of the global flood. 

 

TEACHING THE LESSON: 

The flood is the missing link. Read together as class : II Cor 15:39 There was no evolving from one phylum into another. The fossils we see are distinct and those that are not extinct and still alive and well on planet earth, have not changed at all. There are no fossils of half whale/half cow or half gills/ half lungs. They couldn’t survive under any conditions. Read together II Peter 3:3-13 , “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness: but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night: in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

 

As you are talking with people who believe in Evolution you will notice 2 things they do not believe in : 1. That by the word of God the heavens were of old and 2. The earth standing out of the water and in the water, whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished- Noah’s world wide flood where God punished all who would not believe in His warning. God gave the world 120 years to believe in Noah’s preaching, but to no avail except to his own family. The fossil record is the biggest so called proof that Evolutionists use. But there are no “missing links” between the phylums that they say changed from one to another. Darwin was hopeful that they’d be found in his future, but they never have, and ones they thought might be in the 1800’s proved to not be “missing links”, even still in existence today like the coelacanth found in Madagascar. 

 

Did you ever notice on tv or in brochures of an area they mention often of “ancient sea beds”, mud, and erosion by water etc etc. The reason for this is that there is so much evidence of a major flood in every place all over the earth. They wouldn’t admit it was all one flood but scientists all over the earth admit there is evidence of a flood in their area. Just connect the dots and you have a world wide flood. The reason it’s so hard to accept is that they do not want to believe that God would judge sin by destroying everyone who would not accept his provision of salvation from the coming destruction. Of course the same is true today of coming destruction on earth in our future. Even Charles Lyell, an unbeliever, said, “It is almost superfluous to remind the reader that they who have a theory to establish, may easily overlook facts which bear against them, and unconscious of their own partiality, dwell exclusively on what tends to support their opinions.” (Mortenson p. 225).

 

IT TAKES A LOT OF WATER TO MAKE A FOSSIL.

 

We will talk more about fossils in “Paleontology’s Evidence” in future lesson but Gen 8:1 says that they waters after the flood “assuaged”. That means they went straight down, into the dirt. They went down through the many dead animals and bones carrying minerals with them which fossilized them. (The reverse of this can be demonstrated by soaking a dry chicken leg bone in vinegar, it takes the minerals out.) Gen 7:11 says, “…all the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 

 

CONDITIONS BEFORE THE FLOOD

 

What is this “world that then was”?

 

What was the world like before Noah’s flood? (VA -If you can get a globe of the earth (or ball) and put plastic wrap around it to demonstrate a canopy, it would normally be a ways out from the earth so just tell the students that.)

1. The scientists will tell you that the “half-life” of the magnetism at the North and South poles is 1500 years, so 6000 years ago it was 8 times as strong as it is today. Ice is magnetic at -300 degrees.

2. There was one land mass and one ocean. Gen 1:9 “And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.”

3. The crust of the earth is floating on hot basalt rock of the mantle and is split into fault lines now. This allows for earthquakes and volcanoes, which are all over the earth. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge on the ocean floor runs from Iceland to near the South Pole. 

4. (Use the world ball and wrap plastic wrap around it for the canopy.) There was a canopy of water above the firmament. Gen 1:7 “And God made the firmament (where the birds fly vs. 20) and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.” (See also II Pet. 3:3)This is like a green house. This would have made it warm all over the earth even at the poles. (Show students where the poles would be on the ball.) We find fossils of very large animals at the North pole (5 million mammoths and other animals) and coal deposits (from trees) at the South Pole. The canopy also protected living things from the sun’s harmful, aging, UV rays. It also kept the moisture from the mist to not dry out from the plants. 5. There was more oxygen (30% more ) before the flood as seen in air pockets in tree sap that are fossilized. This would add to the health of all animals and man. This would make more air pressure so larger birds could fly.

6. There was no rain till the flood; the earth was watered with a mist. Gen 2:6

7. There was no cold and no winter or seasons before the flood. Gen 8:22 “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

8. Because there was no seasons the earth must have had no tilt of 23 degrees like it does today.

9. Living and growing were much easier before the flood. Methuselah lived 969 years and many lived at least 900 years old before the flood. We find fossils of animals and plants 10 times bigger than we find them today; so the world’s weather was wonderful and conducive to living a long life and growth. Fossils have been found of 60’ cattails, 8’ beavers, 6’ centipedes, 18” cockroaches, 80’ sharks, 15’ turtles, 11& 12’ men, in VA and Italy. Lizards keep on growing as long as they live, so could get 100’ dinosaurs.

10. There were waters under the earth; Gen 7:11”…were all the fountains of the great deep broken up”. There is evidence of 20,000 volcanoes in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

 

CATASTROPHISM is the theory that a great world wide disaster of a flood, volcanoes and mountain building happened to change the earth’s surface to be as we see it today. It defies the theory that it took millions of years to do it. 

What happened during the flood approximately 4300 years ago?

 

When Noah was 480 years old God gave him the warning there’d be a world wide flood because of sin and he was to build an ark warn everyone. (Gen 6:3) When he was 600 God told Noah to enter the ark after the animals entered and God shut the door. The rain began and lasted 40 days and nights. 5 Month later the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. 9 Months later the dove was sent out and returned with an olive leaf indicating life had returned to the plants. 12 Months later Noah exited the ark with the animals and worshiped God. The Rainbow appeared in the sky as a promise from God that a world wide flood will never occur again. 

Psalms 114:4 says, “The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.” Gen 10:25 says, “The name of the one was Peleg: for in his days [100 years after the flood] was the earth divided.” Records from satellites show the earth’s continents are moving. Some only a few inches a year. Could it be that the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, in the center of the Atlantic Ocean separated North and South America from Europe and Africa only a few thousand years ago. Scientists that are Christian believe Noah’s flood happened 2345 BC. So it is possible that the continents were divided only 4345 years ago not billions. There is much evidence that the earth had only one continent in time past. The only thing they disagree with is that it happened in the time of man. God scattered all peoples after the tower of Babel and dividing the continents was a good way to do it. So it is believed that men could travel across Alaska to the New world before the water at the poles (glaciers) started to melt. So much evidence is in the Americas of the ancient peoples and their DNA indicates they came from the old world. During all the upheaval there would have been volcanoes. Ps 104:32 says, “He toucheth the hills and they smoke.” As we study geology of the earth we see evidence that mountains were made up of layers, laid down by water, some of them moved around, folded and twisted, then solidified into the mountains we see today. God didn’t need billions of years to do this. The billions of years is to allow the impossible- evolution.

 

In the 1700’s some atheistic scientist began to look for explanations that did not include Bible stories nor God’s judgment on people for sin. II Peter 3:5,6 says that they were “willingly ignorant”- that the earth perished in the flood. Think of Refkin’s quote again from first lesson. They did not want to be accountable to God. In 1795 James Hutton theorized that all geologic processes like erosion, mountain building etc had continued at the same rate of speed since the beginning. He said all land forms of the earth could be explained in observable present day processes. This is called UNIFORMITARIANISM. It is from the scoffers religion of II Peter 3. All things continue as they were from the beginning. No, this is not true, there was a world wide flood that killed all the people who did not listen to Noah’s preaching and the world still doesn’t want to listen to Christ’s warning today of impending doom for unbelievers.

What are some evidences of Noah’s catastrophic world wide flood today?

 

1. There are at least 250 ancestral legends from native peoples of a flood,(3-4-4) a boat and a few people who were saved from it. The Chinese symbol for a boat is a vessel, the number 8 and ‘people’.

2. Sedimentary rock is laid down by water and is found all over the earth. 

3. Fossils are found everywhere on earth, even mountain tops. Fossilization implies catastrophe, because quick burial is needed to preserve soft body parts.

4. Fossil graveyards, jumbled and skewed indicating quick catastrophic burial with mud.(3-4-4)

5. Fossil fuels of coal, oil and gas are all over the earth.

6. Ephemeral (short lasting) fossils of jellyfish, ripples in lake beds, foot prints etc indicate quick burial.

7. Hydrologic sorting (by water) of LAYERS of sediment turned into rocks, are all over the earth.

8. The “Great Unconformity” where “1.5 billion” year old granite is directly under .5 billion year old sedimentary rock. Thus 1 billion years is missing; this is all over the earth. Something is wrong with their dating.

9. Evidence of frozen water (glaciers) coming down from the poles, as far south as Kansas City, that was moving fast enough to make gouges in rocks they scraped across.

10. Marine terraces on shores and coastlines indicating higher levels of water at one time.

11. Fish and shell fossils and pillow lave (formed underwater) on mountain tops.

12. DNA shows that there was a “bottle neck” of the population ie. The population was down to just a few people years ago, then before that there were many people like today.

13. Extra large river channels- 10 times bigger than what present day rivers could have eroded.

14. River gullies under water on the continental shelves points to previous times when oceans were lower because more water was tied up in glaciers. (like the Hudson River, NY)

15 The first layer of fossils - The “Cambrian Layer” is sedimentary (laid down by water) where millions of ocean bottom animals are fossilized in this layer on top of non-fossil bearing rock. This first layer is called “The Cambrian Explosion” as it is so different from the layer under it with nothing.

16. The polystrate fossils extending through many layers of coal, like trees and large animals like whales, indicate catastrophe not uniformitarian’s. It could only happen in a huge flood. (as seen in CA, Nova Scotia, France, Scotland)

17. Man made items found in coal: gold chain, iron pot, human skull. These are evidences that a human civilization perished while coal was being formed. 

18. Animals frozen at the North Pole ( and coal at the South Pole) indicate much frozen water fell around them and sealed them in till we discover them today. A scientist said, “…for the Beresovka [River in Russia] mammoth, some violent climatic upheaveal is the only explanation of buttercups … and within one half hour of ingestion of his last lunch, he was overcome by temperatures in excess of -150 degrees F. Whatever climatic upheaval caught him permanently changed the climatic conditions of the tundra. [Jody Dollow, Creation Science Quarterly, (14:12 June 1977)]. Edgar Heylmun in the Journal of Biological Education Jan 1971 p. 36 says, “Any rotating planet, orbiting the sun on an inclined axis of rotation must have climatic zonation because of difference in sun’s slant in summer and winter. It is obvious, therefore that climatic conditions in the past [warmth at the poles] were significantly different from those in evidence today.” The article was called “Should We Teach Uniformitarianism?”

19. The true north is different than the magnetic north about a 1000 miles south of true north. This could indicate that the true north used to be at the magnetic north until the earth’s tilt was changed to 23 degrees as it is today, making our seasons. Gen 8:22 says that cold and winter didn’t exist till after the flood. Maybe this is when God tilted the earth. 

20. Even scientists admit of Catastrophism. [Per Bak, “How Nature Works” (NY:Springer, Verlag, 1996) pp.18,19] Since catastrophism smacks of Creationism, it has been largely rejected by the scientific community despite the fact that catastrophism actually takes place.”

 

Supplies for art: 7 colors of construction paper of the rainbow. White typing paper, glue, scissors, patterns from 3-4-3 Make cbc of the patterns for colors of the kite. Yarn, stapler.

 

Directions for art: Have students trace rainbow shapes onto red construction paper for top one, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink; in that order; down the kite. Cut out of white paper a kite shape. Glue the colors on the kite shape. Staple the yarn on the end of the kite. Write the words “The rainbow is a reminder of Catastrophism”.
