If you were to go to Russia or some other country, how would you know the best things to see and the best roads to travel? If you were smart, you would ask someone who lives there.

Many years ago, a man was visiting Scotland. His travels took him along the coast and someone suggested that he take the road that runs along the beach. They did not tell him, however, that the road was safe only when the sea was at low tide. On one side of the road were the rolling waves and on the other side were the rocky cliffs. As he walked, he enjoyed all the sights, but it really slowed him down. He didn't notice that the waves were coming closer and closer to the road.

Above the beach on the cliffs, a man saw the danger creeping up on the traveller. He quickly climbed down from the top and stopped the traveller by calling a loud "Hello! Hurry! You must climb up with me immediately or you will lose your chance of escape from the sea. Look! The tide is rising fast and has already covered the road behind you. This is your only way of escape!" Foolishly, the traveller ignored the kind man and told him he thought he could make it all right if he hurried.

The traveller went as quickly as he could, but he soon discovered the danger he was in. The sea had already blocked off the road ahead of him. "I'll just go back to where that man was and climb up the cliff," he thought. To his amazement, the sea had already covered the road behind him and cut off his escape. "I'll climb up the cliff right here then," he said. But the rocks were too steep. The water was already at his feet and rising fast, so he climbed up on some higher ground. The water came up there and he was forced to climb up on a pointed rock. The waters kept getting higher and higher and they finally reached him. Then the waters were up to his neck and still rising. He gave a final scream for help, but there was no one to help him. He had ignored the warning. Finally, the sea washed over the traveller and he was not seen anymore.

Aren't you just like that traveller? Of course not, you say; I would never be so foolish! Haven't you ignored God's warnings many times already? Like the man on the cliff that knew the danger, the Lord knows what awful dangers there are ahead of you. He tells you to run from the danger ahead. You can't change your mind and go back to yesterday, because it's gone. You have no promise of tomorrow. But right now, you can be made safe or saved from the punishment for your sin that is getting closer to you everyday. There is One that can take you to safety because He was already punished for your sin. Don't ignore the warnings like Pharaoh did and like this man. It is too dangerous! "Because there is wrath (punishment), beware (look out)!" Job 36:18.
