j g bellettThe Moral Glories of Our Lord -  A devotion regarding the Moral Glory in the character of the Lord Jesus.  All of his life went up to God as a sacrifice of sweet savour. Every expression of Himself in every measure, however small, and in whatever relationship it was rendered, was incense to his father.  Whatever Adam lacked, the Lord fulfilled completely in his perfect life.  J G Bellett was a brother from the United Kingdeom who wrote his works in the 1800's.

Themes: "Gospel is Valuable, God is Calling

Not too many years ago, there was a young man in Italy named Anthony. He was healthy, smart and had learned quite a bit in his few years about how to make money. He had become a rich man with an expensive car, a new home, and much more. One day on his birthday, his family gave him a surprise party. Many gifts were given to him for which he thanked everyone. One of the gifts was a small leather bound New Testament. His uncle had purchased it and had put Anthony's birth date inside the cover with his name.

Later when Anthony was putting his gifts away, he didn't know what to do with this New Testament. So he stuffed it in the far corner of his glove compartment out of sight. Think of that! The eternal Word of God, showing the way to everlasting joy.... and he didn't know what to do with it! He knew how to handle money, and how to make more. He knew how to get a beautiful home, and meet important people, but he didn't know God's simple way of Salvation. (How poor can a rich man be?)

Then came the day of the accident. Anthony's car swerved out of control, smashing against a wall and some rocks. A passerby went to call for an ambulance, and all Anthony could do was wait. His injuries were not bad enough to take his life, but he knew very well that he could have been killed.

His hand reached for his papers of ownership, thinking he would need them when the Police and ambulance arrived, and his fingers came up with the New Testament he received on his birthday! He opened it and began to read these words, "We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out." 1 Tim 6:7. Anthony knew that God was speaking to him. He realized if he had been killed that all his earthly possessions would be someone else's. Not even a penny could he take with him. But the only thing he would take into eternity was his sins. He pictured for a minute what it would be like to meet God and stand before him with nothing but all of his own sins.

Anthony began to read more with an interest that he never had before. He found out that the debt that he owed to God for his sin had been paid for by Christ, God's only son. In that New Testament John 3:16 was underlined, and Anthony saw the truth in those words that he would never need to perish, because God gave his only Son, and has promised everlasting life.

You to could have Anthony's gift, and know your sins forgiven, through trusting in the finished work of Christ on the cross, as the only acceptable payment for your sin. Anthony has two birthdays now; the second one is enough for Heaven!!
