j g bellettThe Moral Glories of Our Lord -  A devotion regarding the Moral Glory in the character of the Lord Jesus.  All of his life went up to God as a sacrifice of sweet savour. Every expression of Himself in every measure, however small, and in whatever relationship it was rendered, was incense to his father.  Whatever Adam lacked, the Lord fulfilled completely in his perfect life.  J G Bellett was a brother from the United Kingdeom who wrote his works in the 1800's.

The race car came to a screeching halt, smoke pouring from the tires. The young driver jumped out, pulled off his helmet, and with a big grin said, "How did I do?" The crew chief laughed as he showed him his stopwatch. "Wow, 190 miles an hour. That's a track record!" The crew chief smiled at the young man, "It sure is, Davey, you've done it again."

Davey loved to go fast. Ever since he could remember, he had been around race cars. His father was a race car driver until he was injured in an accident that ended his career, but that didn't stop Davey. In addition to his race cars, he had several airplanes that he loved to fly. Davey could buy anything he wanted, because he had won millions of dollars from racing. At 32, he was already a star. But he wanted to win more, to keep going fast. If he kept winning, he would one day be greater than his father.

Then, disaster struck. During the summer of 1992, Davey was racing when something went wrong. His car turned sideways and flipped over 11 times at 150 miles an hour. Davey suffered several broken bones, but he was back in the race car the next weekend, racing again. He wanted to show that nothing could hold him back. Then, disaster struck again. This time, Davey's younger brother was killed in a race car while practicing for a race. It was only a year before that Davey had said to a friend, "If I get killed in a race car, I'm going to die with a smile on my face," but there were no smiles now. Death was very real, and God was speaking to Davey. Would he listen?

Soon after that, Davey bought himself a new fast toy. This time it was a helicopter, and Davey spent as much time as he could learning to fly it. One day in summer 1993, Davey flew the helicopter to Alabama to watch a friend test a race car. He soon reached the racetrack and began maneuvering the helicopter into landing position. All of a sudden, the tail rotor struck a fence, and the helicopter jumped 25 feet into the air. It spun around, then rolled over and plummeted downward. People watched in horror as the helicopter slammed into the ground on its side. Davey was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries, and the next day he died. It was a very sad day for Davey's family. God was speaking to them, too. This young man who had done so much and was planning to do so much more was suddenly in eternity.

Did Davey listen to the warning signs from God before he died? I hope so. God was trying to tell him that he needed to be prepared for eternity. Two years before he died, Davey had been asked what was important to him. He said, "All that's really important is to leave this earth knowing We've done our best." If you believe that, God cannot save you. He does not want our best. God wants us to humble ourselves and put our trust in Him to save us. Don't worry about doing your best. Simply trust the Lord Jesus Christ and God will save you.
