Themes Conversion MY WAY OR GOD's WAY When I was young, I went to Sunday School every week, just like you do. I also went to many meetings where I heard men preach how a person could be saved. I learned many of the verses you have learned in Sunday School. The Bible says, "All have sinned" (Romans 3:23). I learned that sin cannot enter Heaven. Sin must be taken away before a person can go to Heaven with God. My teachers told me in Sunday School that the Lord Jesus died to take sin away. One thing really bothered me. I knew the Bible promised the Lord Jesus would return to earth at any time. After that, there would be no more opportunity for me to be saved. The Bible says, "Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (II Corinthians 6:2). When I was about eleven years old, someone died that I knew. Then, someone else died. Then, someone else. Each time, it was someone closer and closer to me. Finally, it hit my family. One of my great Uncles died. I felt sad. I also thought, "God is trying to tell me something. He is reminding me that I need to be saved. What if He has to take someone even closer to me. I should listen!" God loves us. However, sometimes he has to use sad things to make us think about salvation. About a year later, I was listening to a man preach. After he spoke, a young man told him, "I got saved tonight." I could not believe it!! That man had not heard how to be saved before, and he got saved. I knew how to be saved, but I still was not saved. I went home to read my Bible, Sunday School papers, and gospel papers. I still could not understand how to be saved. I read. I prayed. Still nothing. The next night, I heard the gospel spoken again. Later at home, I picked up a little gospel paper called "God is Satisfied." Reading it I learned something from the Bible. Remember how the Lord Jesus came back to life three days after He died? God raised Him from the dead because He was satisfied that the Lord Jesus had paid for sin. God was satisfied the death of the Lord Jesus could "take away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Wow! I also read Isaiah 55:8,9 "'Your ways are not my ways,' saith the Lord." It struck me. "No wonder I can't figure out salvation." I was trying to figure it out my way, when God's ways are different. My dad then read with me in I Peter 3:18 "Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God." "That's God's way!" I thought. "He is satisfied with His Son's death for me! My sins are all ready paid for!" The Lord Jesus' death was good enough for God. Is it enough for you?
