STUCK!

It was Christmas Day, 1989. My family and I were making our annual trip to Topsail Beach in our van. It was usually much warmer at the beach than at home, but not this year. The closer we got to the beach, the colder it became. Snowflakes began to hit the windshield. Inch by inch the snow fell.

Without too much difficulty, we turned left on the last road that would take us to our hotel. Just ahead, firemen blocked off the road. One fireman pulled us over and said, "This is as far as you can go. The snow is too deep." We convinced him that we could drive through it and set off on the last two-mile stretch. Soon, we could no longer see the lights of the fireman behind us. The snow was 18 inches deep on the road.

Suddenly, our van came to a halt. We were stuck! I got out of the van and began to shovel a pathway for each of the tires. After driving a few feet, we were stuck again. During the next six hours, my brother, father and I shoveled snow for one mile. We were exhausted. Finally, we gave up. There was no way we could ever get to the hotel. We were stuck for good.

It was very cold. The van was almost out of gas and we did not have any food. We bowed our heads and prayed together. We asked the Lord to provide us with a way to reach the hotel.

Immediately, after we prayed, we saw two bright lights in the distance coming behind us. As they came closer, we realized that they were the headlights of an army tank. It was huge and could drive through the snow easily. The tank had come from an army base in Jacksonville about 25 miles away.

The tank rolled to a stop. The door opened and a man's head peeked. "Where are you going?" he asked,

"About a mile up the road," we answered.

"Jump in!" He said. "we'll take you there."

We were so happy to see that tank coming for us. The Army paid to send a tank to come and rescue us. It was the only way we could get safely to the motel.

In our Bible story, there was only one way Joseph's brothers could be saved. They would have to die unless Jacob sent Benjamin to Joseph. It cost Jacob more than money. It cost him his own son. The father sending the son he loved was the only way Joseph's brothers could be saved.

There is only one way you can be saved too. The Bible says, "The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world" (I John 4:14). God paid a huge price when He sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus, to die on the cross for sins. This the only way God could ever rescue you from going to Hell and take you to Heaven.
