j g bellettThe Moral Glories of Our Lord -  A devotion regarding the Moral Glory in the character of the Lord Jesus.  All of his life went up to God as a sacrifice of sweet savour. Every expression of Himself in every measure, however small, and in whatever relationship it was rendered, was incense to his father.  Whatever Adam lacked, the Lord fulfilled completely in his perfect life.  J G Bellett was a brother from the United Kingdeom who wrote his works in the 1800's.

All of the children stood nervously waiting for Mr. Williams to announce the cast that had been chosen for the school play. Todd Roberts was listening anxiously for his name to be called for the part of Mr. Vanderbilt. It was the most important part in the whole play. Todd had stayed up late for many nights practicing his lines. He had even had his mother help him so that he would know his lines perfectly. All eyes were upon Mr. Williams as he read names from the piece of paper in his hands. "The part of Mr. Vanderbilt", he read,"will be played by Mark Phillips".

Todd couldn't believe his ears! The part that he had worked so hard for had just been given to someone else. All that time spent practicing seemed like a waste of time. Mr. Williams continued to read names from the list. "The narrator of the play will be Todd Roberts." Todd walked over to the first row in the auditorium and slumped down in a seat. He didn't want to be the narrator, he wanted to be Mr. Vanderbilt. The narrator wasn't even seen by the audience. He stood offstage and read things that helped people understand the play. It didn't seem like a very important part at all.

Mr.Williams could see that Todd was upset and he knew why. He walked over and sat down next to Todd.

"I know that you had your heart set on playing Mr. Vanderbilt but your voice is so clear and strong that I want you to be the narrator." said Mr. Williams.

"But I wanted an important part." said Todd.

"It is important," replied Mr. Williams, "in fact, it just might be THE most important part in this whole play. You will explain to the audience how the story begins and things that they wouldn't know or understand."

Todd wasn't sure if Mr. Williams was saying all of this to make him feel better or if it was really true. But Todd made up his mind that he would do his best at the part that had been chosen for him. Eventually, the play was a big success and Todd did a great job as the narrator.

The Bible story about a man named John the Baptist tells us that even though he wasn't the Messiah he had a very important job to do. A narrator in a play explains things that the audience may not understand. He talks about what is going on and what will happen next. John the Baptist did some of the same things. He explained to the people about the Messiah that would come to take away the sins of the world. He told them that they needed to repent of their sins. John the Baptist's job was very important and so was his message. You must realize that this message is still true today. Jesus Christ can take away your sins today! "By grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8
