Sunday School Lesson 114 Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah Print E-mail

Lesson: 114

Lesson Name: Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
Theme: Sin's Danger and Consequences

Reading: Genesis 19:1-29

Memory Verse: Job 36:18
Memory Verse Text: Because there is wrath, beware.

Attention Getter: Calluses... how do you get them?  Relate calluses to the conscience and "acceptable sins!"

Activity

An 8-page printable mini story booklet to color and remember the story of Abraham, Lot and the city of Sodom.

Talking Points:

Point 1: Twenty or more years in Sodom had made Lot rich and powerful, but unaware of what was happening.  Obviously his daughters loved the Sodomite lifestyle since they married Sodomite men who were in for a good time.
Point 2: God made His decision that there would be fire and destruction poured out upon Sodom and Gomorrah, so He sent messengers to Lot to warn him.  Since the coming destruction was sure, the angels did not simply have an active imagination or a doom and gloom mentality.
Point 3: Homosexuality can be discussed if the kids are mature enough to deal with it.  (Some of its implications are the creation of a violent society and the people simply live for pleasure.)
Point 4: Discuss Lot's slowness to respond.

Notes: If applicable, note the importance of decisions that affect children and others in a bad way.
