Jim Batterton - That night, January 9, 1989, I paced around my room. All of the memory verses I had ever learned were racing through my mind. I knew I really needed to be saved, and as I became increasingly more upset, I was realizing that I really didn’t know how to be saved...
Memory Verse: II Tim. 2:13 Memory Verse Text: He abideth faithful.
Point 1: When Jacob died, Joseph kept his promise to his father and buried him in the land of Canaan. Point 2: After Jacob's death, Joseph's brothers became afraid of him again and wondered if they might yet reap what they had sown. Apparently they still didn't know him very well; they were compelled to bow before his throne again (Gen. 50:18). Point 3: Joseph's attitude toward his brothers did not change. God was a reality in his life so his attitude reflected God's unchanging character. Joseph removed their fears again and reminded them of God's purposes for him (Gen. 50:19-22). Joseph not only comforted and spoke kindness to his brothers, but he also promised to sustain and nourish them. What a wonderful man! Are we reminded that God has a purpose for the things He allows in our lives? Point 4: Joseph lived 110 years, 80 of which were characterized by glory and grace. This is amazing, yet it can't compare with the eternal ages that God has in mind for His people. Joseph prophesied that God would visit them, and He did through Moses! Joseph made his brothers promise that his bones would rest in the Promised Land rather than in Egypt.
