Simon Wallace - I went through Confirmation classes to "confirm my faith in God" and become a member of the church. I don't remember the Bible being opened during these classes to have God's way of salvation explained. I had been baptised as a child and after these sessions was now a member of the church, and yet I remained ignorant as to the very reason for which Christ came into the world...
Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:24 Memory Verse Text: By faith, Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharoah's daughter.
Point 1: Moses came to a point in his life, when he was more mature, that he realized his own potential for God. Point 2: Moses saw the Israelites' burdens and he was moved with compassion. He also witnessed their abuse and realized the lost potential of God's people. Point 3: Moses wanted to do something. Note that it is possible to do something before God's time and not in God's way. Discuss what Moses hadn't balanced out yet: God's character and ways. As a result, he killed the Egyptian. God's people would have had reason to be afraid to have such a man for a leader. Point 4: God had a lot to teach Moses still that he couldn't learn in Egypt, it had to be learned in the desert. Notice in Ex. 2:17,19 that Moses had learned something already since he didn't kill the shepherds.
Notes: Moses still looked like an Egyptian. Likewise, you can get out of the world and away from it's influence but still have marks that need to go.
