j g bellettThe Moral Glories of Our Lord -  A devotion regarding the Moral Glory in the character of the Lord Jesus.  All of his life went up to God as a sacrifice of sweet savour. Every expression of Himself in every measure, however small, and in whatever relationship it was rendered, was incense to his father.  Whatever Adam lacked, the Lord fulfilled completely in his perfect life.  J G Bellett was a brother from the United Kingdeom who wrote his works in the 1800's.

David Kills Goliath the giant with a sling and stone

Talking Points

  • Point 1: Goliath was a giant of a man; his height was in the range of 9'10" to 11'4" tall.  That was big and scary for sure!  Goliath was large enough to have put fear into the whole Israelite army, and he wanted to do even more than that, he wanted to make all of the Israelites his servants.  (Do some research and find out how heavy Goliath's coat and spears head were!)
  • Point 2: When Goliath challenged God's chosen people, he not only challenged them; he was also challenging and defying the Living God.
  • Point 3: David went to his brothers at his father's request.  There, his brothers put him down for his simple faith; they were only looking at the size of their enemy rather than at the size of their God.
  • Point 4: David was brought to Saul's attention again when Saul tried to fit him up in his armor.  However David, who had already proved his God with his bare hands and a sling as a shepherd boy, went before Goliath without the armor.  Instead, he went with simple faith in a great God that was at his side, to win a mighty victory.  David made his position clear to Goliath in 1 Sam. 17:45-47, and Goliath, because he could not see the mighty God at David's side, boasted his empty words in vain.

Illustration: Have you ever kicked a beehive?  It is fine to do as long as the bees don't care.  However, if you get them angry, you are the one that is going to run!
